My Linux workstation install ritual: install Linux, fiddle around, walk away, come back, see that the OS has tried to sleep, hit the keyboard, move the mouse, tap the power button once, try to SSH in remotely, try the keyboard again, wait to see if it worked, hard reboot, and then disable sleep.
